Outgoing Sale Sharks fly half Danny Cipriani has been named in Eddie Jones’ England training squad ahead of the Summer Tour to Australia.

Having previously see his claims to be in contention for the Red Rose’s number 10 jersey ignored, 28-year-old Cipriani is recalled after being the second highest points scorer in the Aviva Premiership this season.

Cipriani, who has 14 England caps, will rejoin old side Wasps for next term. Jones’ roster, it should be noted, does not contain any players from Wasps, Saracens, Leicester Tigers and Exeter Chiefs – the four sides contesting the Premiership play-offs.

Jones taking boys to Brighton

“While we will be without those players involved in the Premiership semi-finals it’s crucial that we spend as much time together as possible,” said the Red Rose’s Australian boss Jones.

“The Brighton training camp is a good opportunity for England to get together and train hard ahead of the Wales game and [our] Summer Tour.

“There’s lots of hard work to be done if we are going to play with the intensity needed to beat Southern Hemisphere teams.

“We know the speed of the game in Australia will be considerably higher than the Six Nations, so this short camp, as well as the preparation time ahead of Wales, is going to be vital to our progression.

“Tour places are still up for grabs and I expect the players in this camp, as well as those involved in the play-offs, to continue to make their case for selection.”

Fresh faces called upon

Bath locks Dave Attwood and Charlie Ewels, Sale full back Mike Haley, Northampton Saints flanker Teimana Harrison, London Irish winger Alex Lewington, Harlequins prop Kyle Sinckler and Newcastle Falcons scrum half Micky Young are new names selected by Jones.

England play Wales at Twickenham on Sunday, May 29th – the day after the Aviva Premiership Grand Final, before jetting out Down Under for a three-Test Tour.

With so many Red Rose regulars playing for clubs that are part of the end-of-season play-offs, the final squad that travels to Australia may bear little resemblance to this training party.

Northampton hooker and national captain Dylan Hartley has managed to prove his fitness, however, despite suffering a concussion against France when winning the Grand Slam.

Already installed as 11/8 favourites with Coral to successfully retain the Six Nations title next year, England are – Wales apart – spending the rest of 2016 testing themselves against Southern Hemisphere opposition.
