Dangerous Leverkusen set to pile misery on Moyes’ Man Utd
Published:Former Liverpool defender Sami Hyypia knows just how important beating Man Utd is and the Bayer Leverkusen manager can mastermind a win in their Group A clash this evening.
Leverkusen have a fantastic home record at the BayArena and have won their last eight home group-stage matches in the Champions League; they are 7/5 to win again.
That includes a four-nil thumping of Shakhtar last month and they then followed up with a very valuable draw in Ukraine.
After all that hard work they are unlikely to wilt in-front of their home fans and the visitors may not be up to the task.
Bet on Leverkusen to concede but still win at 15/4
David Moyes’ tenure at Old Trafford has been an unsteady one and the club suffered another blow on Sunday when they drew at Cardiff.
That performance underlined their defensive frailties – the marking for the equaliser was non-existent – and it is no surprise that the club have conceded 10 goals in six Premier League matches.
However, they make for good viewing as they are also the highest goalscorers away from home in the Premier League.
We can expect more goals this evening and the 5/2 about more than 3.5 goals looks of interest; that bet would have collected in two of Leverkusen’s last three home matches in the Bundesliga.
The Germans’ success this season has been built around their home record and it’s worth noting that it’s not just the smaller teams that have fallen at the BayArena.
Bet on over 3.5 goals at 5/2
Bayern Munich drew 1-1 there in October whilst Leverkusen have won their other two matches against top-half opposition (Wolfsburg and Monchengladbach).
On both occasions both teams scored and the 4/6 about both teams to net this evening becomes even more appealing when we consider Man Utd’s away record this season.
The Red Devils have only failed to score in two away games in all competitions and one of those was against Sociedad where there was only one goal scored by either team in two matches.
United do have some injuries at present – Nemanja Vidic and Robin Van Persie will miss the trip to Germany – and it’s hard to see them running away with this game as they did in Manchester.
They won that 4-2 thanks to goals from Wayne Rooney, Van Persie and Antonio Valencia and Rooney is in fine form at present.
Bet on Rooney to score first at 5/1
The Scouser has eight goals for United so far this season and is 5/1 to score first like he did against Cardiff, and as he did against Leverkusen.
However Leverkusen have scored 20 goals at home this season in just seven games and Stefan Kiessling has nine Bundesliga goals to his name.
Ably supported by Son Heung-Min and goal-scoring midfielder Sidney Sam, Leverkusen are full of goals and the bet of the night looks to be Leverkusen to concede but still win at 15/4.
Whilst they’ve scored plenty, nine goals against at home in the league suggests that Hyypia still has work to do on his back line.
Both sides should be aiming for a win tonight, as Shakhtar look likely to beat Sociedad and the hunt for the top two spots in the group are still wide open; expect goals.
