Daily French Open tips: Serena, Cilic and Del Potro in the mix

Fourth round ties on the horizon
The French Open action continues today, with a flurry of intriguing ties in the fourth round of the Men’s and Women’s Singles.
Amongst them is a titanic clash between Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova, while Juan Martin del Potro looks to build on his excellent recent form.
The Coral News Team are once again serving up five top tips on the day’s games…
The last 12 months have seen Cilic enjoy perhaps the best form of his career, with final appearances at Wimbledon and the Australian Open. And he’s likely to continue his Roland Garros march with a defeat of Fognini.
Cilic has won each of the last two meetings between the pair, and has dropped just a single set in three French Open matches thus far.
A French Open doubles champion in 2016, Garcia loves playing at Roland Garros. The Lyon-based ace also recorded a career-best quarter-final berth in the Women’s Singles last year.
Both players have looked good so far in this year’s competition, though Garcia’s 6-1, 6-3 demolition of Irina-Camelia Begu in the third round was especially impressive. This could be tight, but Garcia should sneak past Kerber this afternoon.
It will take something special to rattle the ‘King of Clay’ this year, and in short – Marterer doesn’t have it.
Nadal has won 10 of the last 13 Men’s Singles titles in this competition, and hasn’t even come close to losing a set yet this year. As for world number 70 Marterer, his achievement lies in getting this far. This should be an extremely one-sided affair.
The Coral News Team reckon this could be one of the ties of the round. Both have breezed to the fourth round with convincing victories – though it’s worth noting that del Potro has faced tougher opposition.
This has been a pretty even fixture over recent times, with the last four meetings producing two wins apiece. However, del Potro is enjoying some of the best form of his career and should have enough to come out on top here.
Two of the biggest names in tennis meet in the Women’s Singles fourth round, as Serena faces Russia’s Sharapova. This game is likely to go the distance, but the American ace should just about edge it.
Serena has won 19 of the pair’s 21 meetings, including each of the last four clashes on clay. Sharapova looked strong in her third-round win over Karolina Pliskova, but looks likely to be edged out here.
