2016 champion jockey discusses his weekend rides
Saturday – Newmarket
He broke his maiden at Newcastle last time out after being very green on his debut.
He won very convincingly too which suggest there could be a lot more to come. John Gosden thinks a lot of him so hopefully he will run a good race.
He is a really nice horse of Marcus Tregoning’s who is free running. He won nicely at Ascot last year. Marcus’ horses are also in great form. This is a competitive race but he should like the course and ground so he has every chance.
He won the Commonwealth Cup last month at Royal Ascot in what was a great performance. This is definitely a tougher race as he is taking on older horses.
He is in good form and had a canter at the track last week. I think he has a nice draw and there will be pace in the race so that will play in his favour.
This is a two-year old filly for Sir Michael Stoute who I don’t know very much about. She has a nice pedigree though and is owned by Cheveley Park Stud. Michael’s horses are running well at the moment so I am hopeful she will have a good chance.
He has won his last two starts and has been very progressive. He won over nine furlongs at Sandown last time. He is the favourite and has a favourite’s chance. I would say he is my best chance of winner on the day.
She won three starts ago so she has gone up in the weights a little since then. She hasn’t run for 274 days so if she can overcome that, she will definitely have a chance.
Salisbury
I was meant to be travelling across to Salisbury for five or six rides but sadly just two made the declarations. This horse will have a chance at six furlongs which is her best trip. The conditions should suit her so she has everything in her favour.
This is my best of the two rides at Salisbury. I went up to Nottingham last Saturday following my rides at Sandown and all three won so hopefully I can have some joy again here.
