Champion Jockey reveals his weekend thoughts
It was fantastic to ride Battaash to success in the Prix de L’Abbaye last weekend. I thought he was brilliant.
I was a little concerned going into it about how he’d react to his run at York but to prevail in a top class Group One in the manner he did was exceptionally well.
There are some big races to look forward to next year like the King’s Stand Stakes and maybe even the Nunthorpe or July Cup.
Ulysses ran another huge race in the Arc and has had a tremendous season. The ground and trip were probably a little bit against him at Chantilly but he gave it his all.
He has had two Group One victories and been consistent in all the big races he has run in so we can’t have asked for any more.
Tomorrow at Ascot I have a nice book of rides, including Mojito in the Challenge Cup.
Jim’s Saturday rides at Ascot
He has run really well on his last two starts which is good news because he lost his way a little bit before then.
He is the favourite in the race and rightfully so. He doesn’t mind a bit of cut in the ground so I am confident of a big run.
He has a bit to find on ratings. When you are taking on Waldgeist off level weights it is going to be hard to win.
The French horse has some good Group One form as he was second in the French Derby.
If my horse runs to his best we may be able to pick up some place money so we are not afraid to take our chance.
My runner in this has a really good chance in the race.
He hasn’t run on anything softer than good but when you look at his breeding he is by Kodiac out of a Diktat mare so you’d say he probably wants a bit of cut in the ground.
He has been a little unlucky at times but hopefully he will run a big race. Blue Point is obviously the one we have to beat but we should be right there with him.
I won on this horse at York and he looks a very progressive type.
He gave me a good feel when I won on him last time.
He has a Group Two entry later this month so William Haggas thinks a lot of him. He has done nothing wrong this season and is going in the right direction.
I’d say he is my standout ride of the day. We are in stall 18 which is standside so we may need a bit of luck from there but I think we will be ok.
This is a nice filly who won at Newmarket last year where she beat Unforgetable Filly from Hugo Palmer’s yard.
She will not mind any juice in the ground. I rode her early in her career in the Sweet Solera Stakes where she finished fourth.
She is rated 98 so she’ll need to step up but she should be placed at the very least.
I’ve not ridden this horse before but I have watched her a few times and she looks to be a strong traveller.
She is a hold up horse, has a nice weight on her back and we expect Ascot will suit her so she should have a good chance.
