It’s been a good week. I’ve had plenty of winners in the last 14 days, and Owen Burrows’ horses have hit form.
We had a nice Listed winner at Sandown with Wadilsafa on Wednesday. I won the Group Two last Saturday on Mustashry which was really pleasing, so everything is going well.
I have eight rides at Newbury on Saturday so it’s a busy day and hopefully we can get another winner or two on the board.
I haven’t sat on this horse. I’ve heard he goes nicely. I’ve already ridden a first time out two year old winner for Brian this year so I know he can ready one.
He has a reasonable pedigree and I’m very hopeful of a nice run.
It’s the first time I’ve ridden this horse. I’ve spoken to James Doyle about him. He won a nice race up at Wetherby and he’s been running consistently.
He’d like a bit of cut in the ground so the more rain the better for him. He looks like he should have a solid each way chance.
This is a great ride to pick up. He won over course and distance here in a maiden earlier in the year and then won the Chester Vase.
He ran okay in the Investec Derby but probably didn’t handle the track that day. This is a competitive race and he’s got Mirage Dancer and Desert Encounter to beat on the ratings.
He’s another one that won’t mind any rain. In fact if the rain comes then I think he’d have a great chance, but even if the ground stays good he still has a good chance.
Young Rascal beat me on Corgi in that maiden earlier in the year, and Corgi has gone on to run really well in all the big handicaps this year.
He was second at Royal Ascot and second at Glorious Goodwood, and Young Rascal absolutely hammered Corgi that day in the maiden here at Newbury. He’s obviously a high class horse.
He’s made massive strides since his debut. He absolutely bolted up on the all-weather at Newcastle. He’s trained by a really good trainer in Jeremy Noseda.
It’s a competitive Group Two but I think he’ll have a squeak. I was really impressed by the way he won last time and I’d like to think we have a shot in this race.
This is another great ride to pick up. He hasn’t really cut it at the top level this horse but I know they like him a lot. He won well last time out in a little race at Leicester which got his head back in front.
A lot of the opposition are backing up quite quick, the likes of Sioux Nation and Take Cover, who ran in Ireland last weekend. I’d like to think my horse is up to this level. I know Charlie Hills rates him quite highly.
He’s dropping back to five furlongs having started over six furlongs earlier this season. He seemed to show enough speed last time at Leicester. He needs to prove himself at this level whereas many of his opponents already have, but he looks progressive.
It’s his first time out and I haven’t ridden him in any of his homework so don’t know too much about him. Nearly all the field are unraced so we’ll just have to see how we get on. He has a reasonable pedigree.
This is a really nice ride to pick up. He’s won two his last four starts and was only just pipped at Chelmsford last time out. I’d like to think he’ll run very well.
It’s a competitive race but he has a nice weight, and is a typical Luca Cumani horse – an improving three year old. He should have a really good chance.
5.15 Newbury – Mutafarrid
I like this horse a lot. I won on him at Yarmouth last year and he was then very unlucky next time out at Doncaster. He got carried across the track that day.
I thought he was an absolute certainty next time out but he got beat. Last year I always thought he was a nice progressive horse.
I think he should have a good chance and Owen Burrows’ horses are in decent form now. He’s only had the two starts this year and I’d like to think he can win off this mark.
