Coral ambassador discusses his four Saturday rides
I’m riding at Newbury in the afternoon where I’ve picked up a great ride in the Lockinge for Andrew Balding on Beat The Bank.
I then head up to Doncaster for two rides in the evening. I’ve got a driver for the day, so I can relax and read the paper. We have plenty of time from leaving Newbury to get up to Doncaster so it should work fine, but I won’t get home until late. Fortunately, I have a day off on Sunday so that makes up for it.
I had to pick between Eqtidaar and Shabaaby. They are both nice horses and I’ve won on both of them. Eqtidaar ran a very good race last time out against Invincible Army. I’d like to think he might be a Commonwealth Cup horse and if he is then he needs to be winning this.
Shabaaby is a very nice horse as well. There is not a lot between the two of them on ratings. Hopefully, I’m on the right one. I think I am.
This is a great ride to pick up. The Lockinge is a great race as you’d expect with the likes of Limato, Rhododendron, Zabeel Prince to name but a few. You can forgive Beat The Bank his last run on Champions Day as he was drawn away from the action and he was coming to the end of a long season. He has some smart form and he will have a good chance.
I ride this colt for Marcus Tregoning. He snuck into the race on 8 stone 9 pounds so I won’t be having much breakfast. He ran well first time out when second to Snazzy Jazzy – a decent horse of Clive Cox. He ran in a nice race first time this season at Goodwood finishing fifth. I’m very hopeful that he’ll run well.
He’s alright this horse, I like him. He won at Yarmouth nicely last year. He’s been working well and this looks a good opportunity for him to get his head in front again.
