New front-runner for Ascot showpiece

Coronation Cup winner Cracksman has been backed into 4/5 favourite to claim victory in the Prince of Wales’s Stakes.

Royal Ascot returns with a flurry once again next week.

The opening day begins with three of the most prestigious Group One flat races but it’s Wednesday’s showpiece that’s attracting attention.

The Prince of Wales’s Stakes takes centre-stage and a new favourite has emerged.

The John Gosden trained Cracksman is way ahead of the chasing pack.

His impressive performance in Epsom’s Coronation Cup has seen odds come in from evens to 4/5.

Cracksman wore down the long-time leader Sallouen before a last-gasp win at the line.

The four-year-old also saw victory at the Champions Stakes in October 2017 on his last appearance at Ascot.

Coral’s David Stevens said: “Trainer John Gosden’s report that he’s happy with how Cracksman has recovered from his Epsom exertions has prompted punters to take the last of our evens about the Prince Of Wales’s favourite.

The multiple Group One winner has become the first odds-on market leader for one of next week’s Royal races,”
