Toon tempted by Gomis and Pato

The January transfer window is currently in full swing and Premier League relegation battlers Newcastle United are being linked heavily with an attractive double swoop which would certainly boost their season prospects.

Both Swansea City frontman Bafetimbi Gomis and Brazilian forward Alexandre Pato are being tipped for a switch to Tyneside this month, as Steve McClaren’s Toon seek for a swift domestic revival in order to beat a daunting drop down divisions this term.

Newly-appointed temporary Swansea coach Alan Curtis is looking to reshuffle his pack, which seemingly includes offloading French forward Gomis, while the Magpies have also been offered the chance to sign former AC Milan marksman Pato.

Newcastle need firepower

The Tyneside club have been heavily reliant on star Dutchman Georginio Wijnaldum for goals this current campaign from midfield, but a bolstering in their frontline is needed and these two touted targets would bring an abundance of much-needed attacking quality.

Newcastle have already spent £16m on boosting their central areas by capturing Jonjo Shelvey and Henri Saivet, but further high-profile swoops for Gomis and Pato may give them the extra forward surge needed to retain their top-flight status.

Brazil international Pato has previously been linked with Chelsea and Liverpool, having struck 51 goals for the Rossoneri in 107 outings before moving to Corinthians where he has netted nine times in 30 league games.

Villa vying for Debuchy deal

Elsewhere, rock-bottom outfit Aston Villa are hoping to land Arsenal right back Mathieu Debuchy in order to help push themselves from a miserable relegation position, with the Frenchman reportedly having told press in his homeland that he regrets joining his current employers.

Reports suggest that the out-of-favour defender has already spoken to Villans boss Remi Garde about the possibility of arriving at the West Midlands, as the under-pressure side seek a way out of their dismal struggles down at the top tier basement.

Tottenham target another Dembele addition

Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham are flying high in the Premier League and well on their way to earning a European position after such impressive domestic form, and the Londoners will look to add further firepower with the capture of Fulham prospect Moussa Dembele.

Spurs have benefited from encouraging performances from current midfielder Mousa Dembele, but they will seek to acquire his younger namesake this month, with Cottagers boss Slavisa Jokanovic still eager to retain his starlet’s services though.

The 19-year-old has become hot property in England with his dazzling displays in the Championship, dispatching 11 goals in all competitions so far this term, and Fulham will be keen to hold on to such a prized asset.
