Coral’s Rumour Reel: Manchester City set for summer spending spree?
Published:Manchester City lost their Premier League title to Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea this season, and look to be keeping faith in current boss Manuel Pellegrini for another term, as he prepares to go on a spending spree to bolster his Sky Blues squad.
City have reportedly promised the Chilean coach a blank cheque this summer, which he will be using to sign world class stars with, and one of those targets is Juventus’ sought-after midfield maestro Paul Pogba. The Frenchman is the hottest prospect in world football and could give his former employers Manchester United a bitter blow by joining their close rivals.
Another hopeful incomer at the Etihad is Liverpool’s wantaway contract rebel Raheem Sterling, who has signalled his intentions clearly that he wants to depart Anfield this summer. The 20-year-old England international could spell the start of many fellow countrymen joining the club, who are 5/2 with Coral to win next season’s title.
City are also involved in talks with Wolfsburg’s Kevin De Bruyne, with the former Chelsea and current Wolfsburg playmaker tipped for a return to England’s top-flight.
On the other half of the city, the Red Devils are reportedly still trying to lure Karim Benzema to Old Trafford, in a move that could see their shot stopper David de Gea finally agree a switch to Real Madrid. The Spaniard looks set to be involved in this summer’s longest transfer saga, as he aims to seal a move to the Bernabeu.
Louis van Gaal’s men were, however, dealt a blow as apparent target Felipe Anderson claims he has no intentions of leaving Lazio this year.
United’s number one would undoubtedly walk straight into Real’s starting line-up, meaning their current goal guard Iker Casillas could be set for an arrival in the Premier League, with Arsenal his touted destination. Arsene Wenger is in need of a regular stopper and the Spain international could be a good option.
On the red half of Merseyside, Liverpool full back Glen Johnson is expected to join Turkish outfit Besiktas after being released from Brendan Rodgers side.
There were plenty of well-regarded players released form their clubs this week, including Manchester City’s Micah Richards, who is sure to attract interest from some Premier League sides, including Liverpool, to fill their void at right back.
Burnley’s Kevin Trippier enjoyed an impressive campaign in the top tier, despite being relegated, with Tottenham leading the race for his summer signature, as a £3.5m buy-out clause is being reported. Spurs are 5/1 to secure a top four finish next season under Maurcio Pochettino.
