Blues eye Teixeira and face competition for Vardy

Chelsea, 6/1 with Coral for a top four finish, are reportedly targeting Jamie Vardy and Alex Teixeira in the January transfer window.

Vardy is also understood to have attracted tentative interest from Manchester City, who are relatively light in attack due to Sergio Aguero’s fitness concerns, while the 28-year-old would be eligible for Champions League duty, as well as boosting their English quota of players.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have struggled for goals all season, though their is a general consensus that Vardy is just seen as a quick fix and whether he is the right man for them remains to be seen.

Teixeira, though, has been tracked by Chelsea for months, perhaps due to the fact that he has scored 26 goals in as many matches across all competitions this term, attracting a valuation in the region of £30m. However, he operates behind the main striker and would join compatriots Oscar and Willian, plus Cesc Fabregas and Eden Hazard as being players who can fill that role.

Matip closing on Liverpool

Schalke centre back Joel Matip has reportedly rejected a new contract offer from the Bundesliga outfit, with the Cameroonian understood to be Liverpool’s wishlist.

While the 24-year-old’s contract is due to expire in the summer, it could now mean that the German club decide to sell in January and recoup a fee, with the Reds in need of defensive reinforcements sooner rather than later, so this could be good for all parties involved.

Juan fight

Roma attacker Juan Iturbe could well end up at Bournemouth, with the Cherries looking likely to beat Watford to his signature, who were thought to be in the driving seat.

There is no doubt that the Argentine has talent, though he has never really lived up to his full potential in Serie A and could be open to a move to the Premier League.
