Coral’s PL team of matchweek 34: Hull heroics and Everton entertainment

It was another fascinating Premier League matchweek, with sensational strikes and shocks galore, as the top four chase and relegation dogfight took on yet more twists and turns. So, without further ado, Coral experts bring you our superb starting XI of the Premier League’s top performers.

Formation 4-4-2

Goalkeeper: Boaz Myhill (West Bromwich Albion)
Kasper Schmeichel pulled out the stops yet again for Leicester City, but Albion stand-in stopper Myhill gets top billing in our starting XI this marvellous matchweek. The California-born custodian not only kept a clean against Liverpool, but did so in style, with a superb double save to deny both Philippe Coutinho and Jordan Henderson.

Right back: Craig Dawson (West Bromwich Albion)
The Baggies also impressed in the right back berth, with Dawson keeping Reds wing wizard Raheem Sterling quiet on the flank, despite fullback not being the 24-year-old’s natural position.

Centre back: John Stones (Everton)
Young Stones continues to surpass his Toffees rearguard peers this term, and put in an accomplished and composed performance beyond his years against Manchester United. The Barnsley-born centre half also proved to be a set piece star in the opposition’s box, bagging his first Everton goal.

Centre back: John Terry (Chelsea)
We move on from England’s bright future with Stones, to one of the Three Lions’ finest former centre backs in Terry, who takes the lead in our backline. Chelsea’s captain fantastic was a solid and authoritative presence to help the Blues build from the back, as well a shut out the Gunners. Jose Mourinho’s men are now 2/1 with Coral to win the title at home against Liverpool.

Left back: Leighton Baines (Everton)
Baines exploited the Red Devils’ attacking intent on the counter expertly and easily nullified nimble Juan Mata. The flying fullback also provided a cracking corner to set-up Stones’ set piece header, helping to put the Toffees 2-0 up.

Defensive midfield: James McCarthy (Everton)
Worked well alongside partner Gareth Barry to shield Everton’s backline and keep the Toffees ticking over nicely. The Republic of Ireland midfield shield also timed his run perfectly for the opener, bursting determinedly into the box to put the home side ahead.

Right wing: Kevin Mirallas (Everton)
The Belgium wingman came off the bench to stake a claim for a starting spot in spectacular style, sealing Everton’s excellent victory with a crisp strike to beat David De Gea. Could have added a second if not for the Spain stopper.

Attacking midfield: Gylfi Sigurdsson (Swansea City)
The influential and inventive Iceland international spurred Swansea on to victory at St James’ Park, which broke the Welsh club’s Premier League points record. A cool finish and an assist, his 10th of the season, means superb Sigurdsson swans into our starting XI.

Left wing: Robbie Brady (Hull City)
The Tigers’ tenacious wideman put in a terrific shift for the relegation battlers (who are 2/1 to fall through the trap door), with his exuberance the inspiration behind Hull’s best attacking, including a crucial assist.

Centre forward: Graziano Pelle (Southampton)
Italy capped attacker Pelle has returned to form in recent weeks, just as his club require a boost. The poacher appears to be in the midst of a purple patch once more and bagged a brace to bring the Saints (odds-on at 5/6 for a top six finish) a vital point against Spurs.

Centre forward: Dame N’Doye (Hull City)
N’Doye was Steve Bruce’s main dangerman, as the Senegal striker’s pace and poise caused Palace endless problems. The Hull hitman also struck twice, and his goals could prove crucial in the Tigers’ bid for Premier League survival.
