Coral’s Heroes and Villains: Weekend of delicious Easter goals

Easter is always a momentous occasion, and the footballing world did not disappoint viewers that were hoping to enjoy their Bank Holiday break after a cracking weekend.

Following an exciting round of fixtures, Coral have come up with our Heroes and Villains – or good and bad eggs, if you were – of matchweek 31.

Heroes

A weekend of great goals
Chocolate was not the only treat of the Easter weekend, as football fans were given no less than five great goals to salivate over from the Premier League fixtures.

The likes of Jermain Defoe, Wayne Rooney, Alexis Sanchez and Bobby Zamora, came out with some egg-ceptional crackers, but Charlie Adam’s 59-yard screamer against Chelsea as the pick of the bunch.

Rampant Ronaldo
While the English top-flight saw some wonder-strikes, Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo definitely won the Easter hunt for total goals, as he fired a grand total of five past Granada in a 9-1 win.

His heroic haul puts him on exactly 300 for 4/1 Champions League chances Los Blancos in just 287 games, only 23 behind leading club marksman Raul Gonzalez.

Premier League relegation battlers
It is getting very tight at the bottom, especially after his weekend as drop zone dwellers Leicester City (9/4 to stay up), QPR (3/1) and Burnley (6/5) all pulled the rabbit out the hat and gained crucial results.

The Foxes beat West Ham United after a late winner, the Hoops put in an unbelievable performance at The Hawthorns to thrash West Bromwich Albion 4-1, while the Clarets claimed a point against Tottenham.

Villains

Liverpool, Southampton and Tottenham
Only a few weeks ago, it looked as if we would all be treated to a tense finish to the season in the battle for Champions League places.

However, Liverpool, Southampton and Tottenham have all seemingly given up on the top four. The trio all slipped up at the weekend, allowing winners Arsenal and Manchester United to build a solid points deficit with just seven matches to go.

Burnley v Spurs drab draw
In the last of the live Sunday Premier League games we were hoping for more exciting action, but it seems the players had perhaps gone too chocolate egg crazy earlier.

In this 0-0 draw, there were just six shots on target, with only two coming from the visitors, who were led by Harry Kane.

Toothless Toon
Another team that had simply lost their appetite, Newcastle United were simply awful against bitter rivals Sunderland, and as a result succumbed to their fifth straight Tyne-Wear derby defeat.
