Manchester United (6/1 with Coral to win the Premier League) firmly made a statement that they are in the title race this season after seeing off Southampton in a 3-2 thriller at St Mary’s.
The match may be remembered for another David de Gea goalkeeping masterclass and record teenager signing Anthony Martial’s double, but we are going to celebrate Juan Mata’s finish after a magnificent 45 passes.

Carlos Alberto: Brazil v Italy
We start off on the biggest stage of them all, the World Cup final in 1970. Often referred to as the greatest goal in the history of the game, not for the finish but the overall team move, Samba Boys skipper Alberto smashed home from Pele’s pass to complete a 4-1 drubbing in Mexico City in front of over 100k fans.
Marc Overmars: Ajax v MVV Maastricht
We move to club football now, and to another Louis van Gaal-led side – this time with Ajax in what was perhaps their greatest ever season in 1994/95 in which they won the Eredivisie and Champions League.
A wonderful build-up play finished with ex-Arsenal attacker Overmars latching onto a Danny Blind (father of Man Utd’s Daley) pass.
Esteban Cambiasso: Argentina v Serbia and Montenegro
Another strike at a World Cup finals, this time in a group game in 2006 where former Inter Milan and Leicester City cult hero Cambiasso completed a combo of 25 passes after Hernan Crespo’s brilliant backpass.
The likes of Juan Roman Riquelme, Roberto Ayala, Juan Pablo Sorin and Javier Mascherano were all also involved in the move, with only keeper Roberto Abbondanzieri and Nicolas Burdisso omitted.
Jack Wilshere: Arsenal v Norwich City
Wilshere’s 2013/14 Premier League Goal of the Season to open the scoring against the Canaries is one that you can never get bored of viewing.
The talented but injury-prone youngster was the architect and finisher of the move, as he combined with the likes of Santi Cazorla and Olivier Giroud to stun the Norwich team and find the net.
Diego Maradona: Argentina v Greece
Last, but certainly not least, another from Argentina and another from the World Cup. Maradona may be better known for his controversial and then genius goals against England in 1986, but his finish at the 1994 finals against Greece is up there with the best team strikes ever.
The magician completed a fantastic show of tiki taka one-touch football, which completely mesmerised the Greek defence in the eventual 4-0 loss, which also saw Gabriel Batistuta hit a hat-trick.
