Coral’s boss watch: Monk, Mourinho remain market leaders for axe

Garry Monk has once again gone odds-on with Coral at 2/9 in the next Premier League manager to go market, with the Swansea City head coach having drifted last week to 5/4.

Monk may be on his way

The Swans have endured a dismal autumn, winning just once in England’s top-flight since the end of August, and they may need to act now rather than risk a bleak midwinter.

Now sitting just a single point above the relegation zone, Swansea have lost eight of their last dozen matches across all competitions.

Monk is aware the Liberty Stadium side’s board are considering his position with former Swans boss Brendan Rodgers and Rangers manager Mark Warburton linked with taking over. David Moyes, recently sacked by Real Sociedad, is not interested, however.

Time running out for Special One?

Chelsea’s Jose Mourinho remains second-favourite behind market leader Monk at 4/1 with the Blues succumbing to another shock defeat – this time at the hands of promoted side Bournemouth.

Mounting one of the poorest defences of the Premier League title in modern times, Chelsea are just a couple of points above the bottom three – an unthinkable position before a ball was kicked at the start of the season.

Speculation is now mounting that Blues owner Roman Abramovich will axe Mourinho if he cannot defeat Porto and claim top spot in Champions League Group G, plus beat surprise Premier League leaders Leicester City.

Best of rest

A sensational 2-0 home victory over in-form Liverpool has certainly bought Newcastle United manager Steve McClaren some more time, and he’s now 8/1 to go next.

Norwich City boss Alex Neil is next as a 20/1 shot, because they’ve won just one of their last 10 in all competitions and sit just above the drop on goal difference.

It’s 40/1 bar the above, Louis van Gaal (25/1) – whose Manchester United side were booed off in their bore draw at home to West Ham United – and winless Aston Villa boss Remi Garde (28/1).
