Coral round-up the key ante-post markets ahead of Glorious Goodwood

Goodwood Cup and Sussex Stakes looked at

Glorious Goodwood is one of the gems in the flat racing calendar. The five-day festival gets underway on Tuesday 31st July before concluding on Saturday 4th August with the Group 1 Nassau Stakes.

In-between all of that, there’s the Lennox Stakes, Goodwood Cup, Sussex Stakes and King George Stakes to enjoy. The Coral News Team have look at the ante-post players for each of the big five renewals.

Qatar Lennox Stakes

Expert Eye is the 9/4 favourite for this 7f sprint after putting a poor run in the 2,000 Guineas behind him to land the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot last time out.

Sir Michael Stoute’s charge is a good chunk ahead of 2,000 Guineas runner-up Tip Two Win (7/1) and July Cup-fourth Sir Dancelot (8/1). Breton Rock and Limato are also given chances at 10s.

Qatar Goodwood Cup

Stradivarius is the runaway favourite for the feature race following confirmation that main rivals Order of St George and Kew Gardens would not run in the Group 1 renewal.

John Gosden’s Ascot Gold Cup winner is 4/6 to retain the title he won last year when beating Big Orange by over a length. Sagaro Stakes winner Torcedor is his nearest challenger at 9/2 but must reverse form after finishing 1l behind the raider at Ascot. Withhold is available at 7/1.

Qatar Sussex Stakes

Trainer Gosden also holds the ace card in the Sussex Stakes with 6/4 shot Without Parole. The three-year-old is four from four so far and edged Gustav Klimt by just under a length to take the St James’s Palace Stakes last time out.

Klimt is without success since victory on his reappearance at Leopardstown in April and can be backed a 6/1. Queen Anne Stakes-third Lightning Spear is the same-price, ahead of Beat The Bank (7/1) and Rhododendron (8/1).

Qatar Nassau Stakes

Urban Fox is two from three this season and 7/2 for success in the Nassau Stakes after a 3l triumph in the Pretty Polly Stakes. William Haggas’ highly-progressive three-year-old Sea Of Class provides the main opposition at 4/1.

Aidan O’Brien pair Happily (5/1) and Rhododendron (6/1) come next, before Investec Oaks runner-up Wild Illusion at 7/1.

Qatar King George Stakes

No surprises for guessing that the Charlie Hills-trained Battaash is the 13/8 favourite for the King George Stakes. The 5f speed demon is a Group 1 winner and was only narrowly beaten by the temperamental Blue Point in the King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot.

He won this last year by over 2l from favourite Profitable. He’ll be the one they’re all out to beat this time around, with Kachy (7/1), Sioux Nation (8/1) and Dreamfield (10/1) all sure to be in hot pursuit.
