Brit pack all look well-placed to qualify

With two rounds played in the 2017-18 Champions League group stages, all six British sides are still in with a good chance of qualifying for the last-16.

Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea all top their respective groups. Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool both sit handily in second of their particular mini-leagues. Celtic are third on goal difference with Bayern Munich in Group B.

The Coral News Team look at the outright odds of each team winning Europe’s holy grail this season…

Manchester City

City have really come into their own at the start of this season. Pep Guardiola’s style is finally being emulated by his players, who are scoring goals for fun. They’ll face bigger challenges in the coming months. But for the time being the Sky Blues are in form that suggests a UCL tilt is likely.

As a result, Guardiola’s City remain competition favourites among the British sides. The Citizens are 9/1 shots to claim a maiden Champions League triumph.

Manchester United

United are 10/1 to win the Champions League for the first time since 2008. The Red Devils have begun life back in Europe’s premier club competition in scintillating fashion. A 4-1 win at CSKA Moscow followed up their 3-0 stroll against FC Basel.

Jose Mourinho’s men have managed to carry their Premier League form onto the continent. With a settled side and a potent attack, the Manchester giants should go deep into the competition.

Chelsea

The Blues showed Europe what they are capable of with a hugely impressive 2-1 victory at Atletico Madrid on matchday two. In doing so, Chelsea became the first English side ever to win away against Atletico in the Champions League.

More impressive was the manner of their performance. Antonio Conte’s side dominated from start to finish. With such free-flowing football between the midfield and forward line, the Coral News Team see value in Chelsea at 14/1.

Liverpool

With their attacking quartet of Mohamed Salah, Philippe Coutinho, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, Liverpool have the fire power to win the competition. However, a leaky defence significantly dampens their chances.

Jurgen Klopp’s Reds have picked up just two points from their opening two games. Despite that disappointing tally, they still sit second in Group E. It’s Maribor up next home and away. If they can secure six points from those back-to-back matches, the Merseysiders will be well-placed to qualify for the next round. The Anfield club can be found at 25/1 to win the competition with Coral.

Tottenham Hotspur

Back-to-back victories in their opening group games gives Spurs an excellent chance of making it through. Crucially, the Lilywhites finally appear to be settling in at Wembley on the European stage.

Spurs have the starting XI to go far in the competition. It’s their lack of strength in depth that once again lets the North Londoners down. At 25/1, though, they could be worth an each-way shout.

Celtic

After two games Celtic sit level on points with Bayern Munich in Group B. However, the odds don’t exactly reflect their good start. The Hoops are 250/1 rank outsiders to claim a second European crown.

They have impressed so far, though. And against an out of sorts Bayern they may well fancy their chances. If they can take a point or three from that clash with the German giants, qualification from the group stage could well be on.
