Coral French Open first round preview
Published:The French Open takes centre stage with all the big names in Roland Garros. Coral previews a number of selected games for the first round.
Men’s Ties
Novak Djokovic v Jarkko Nieminen
Last year’s beaten finalist is odds-on a 1/200 to beat his Finnish opponent who lost in the fist round of the Greek Open last time out. The world number one is 5/6 to win the French Open and could face last year’s winner Rafael Nadal in the quarter-finals.
Halys, Quentin v Rafael Nadal
The Spaniard and reigning champion is 1/100 to beat his opponent and 9/2 second favourite to retain the tournament on a surface that brings out the best in him.
Stan Wawrinka v Marsel Ilhan
Swiss star Wawrinka is 1/50 to beat Ilhan and will b hoping for a good performance over the next two weeks in the run-up to Wimbledon. He is 22/1 to win the tournament.
Alejandro Falla v Roger Federer
It’s Colombia against Switzerland, with former world number one Federer 1/50 to beat Falla. The former is also 10/1 to lift the trophy he last won in 2009.
Andy Murray v Facundo Arguello
At 1/100 it looks as though British hope Murray is overwhelming favourite to win his first round match. The 28-year-old is 9/1 for the tournament, having reached the semi-finals last year.
Women’s Ties
Kaia Kanepi v Maria Sharapova
Russian hope and world number three, Sharapova is 1/12 to beat Kanepi, and off the back of a recent Italian Open victory will be high on confidence. She is 9/2 for the tournament.
Serena Williams v Andrea Hlavackova
The 11/4 favourite and top seed for the tournament, Williams, is 1/33 to beat her Czech opponent, who bowed out of the Italian Open doubles at the second round recently.
Mathilde Johansson v Heather Watson
Britain’s 23-year-old hope is 1/3 to progress through to the second round, and can at least take comfort that she lost in the second round of the Italian Open to the eventual beaten finalist. She is 125/1 for the tournament.
Monica Puig v Sabine Lisicki
Puerto Rica take on Germany in the first round, with the latter, Lisicki 4/9 to record the win, while the 2013 Wimbledon finalist is 150/1 to win the tournament.
Ana Ivanovic v Yaroslava Shvedova
Serbian star, and 50/1 tournament hope Ivanovic is 1/7 to beat her Kazakh counterpart, and will be hoping to get back to the type of form that won her the competition in 2008.
Coral recommended bet: Rafael Nadal to win @ 9/2
