Calandagan and Economics have been installed as the sponsor’s 5-1 joint favourites for this summer’s Coral-Eclipse, following May 6's initial entry stage for the Sandown Group One. The race, the 50th running under Coral’s sponsorship, will have a prize pot of £1 million for the first time this year, while the winners of the Prix du Jockey Club [French Derby] and Prix de Diane [French Oaks] will automatically gain entries.

The current Derby favourite, The Lion In Winter, is next in the betting at 6-1, ahead of last weekend’s 2,000 Guineas one-two, Ruling Court and Field Of Gold, both 8-1, while the French-trained pair, Map Of Stars and Sosie are 10-1, the same price as Anmaat.
Coral’s David Stevens said: “The Coral-Eclipse is one of the most prestigious Flat races in the calendar, and we are incredibly proud of our fifty year association with the race, which makes it the longest-running Group race sponsorship in the world. The prize money increase to £1 million is another landmark moment for the race, and the stellar list of initial entries for this year’s renewal show it remains firmly at the forefront of the minds of leading owners, breeders and trainers across Europe. The race is the first top level clash of the generations, and that’s something we’re likely to see this year, with the 4-y-o pair, Calandagan and Economics our opening favourites, closely followed by The Lion In Winter, Ruling Court and Field Of Gold, all representing the Classic generation.”
