Controversial 500-1 Derby outsider to hit the bookies for millions

Britain’s bookmaker are facing their most expensive ever payout on horseracing’s Epsom Derby, if a 500-1 rank outsider called Diore Lia pulls off the biggest shock in the race’s history on Saturday. The filly, well beaten in her two starts to date but controversially still lining up in the Classic race, appears to have very little chance of winning the famous Epsom highlight, but that hasn’t stopped punters backing her, and if the miracle result did happen, bookies could be faced with a £20 million hammering.
“Even though it has caused plenty of controversy, the owner of Diore Lia, Richard Aylward, has set his heart on running his filly in the world’s most famous flat race, even though the odds say she has no chance of being involved in the finish, but then we thought the same thing about 5000-1 shots Leicester before they won the Premier League,” said Coral’s David Stevens.
“Although she looks to be completely out of her depth, in the great British tradition of getting behind the underdog, plenty of punters are backing Diore Lia, and at odds of 500-1 she is by far the biggest loser in our book. We’re not having sleepless nights just yet, but if the miracle result did happen, bookies could be hit to the tune of £20 million,” reckoned Stevens.
Diore Lia is 1-3 with Coral to finish last, and 9-4 not to, and 50-1 to finish in the first ten.
