British-trained horses can enjoy a better year in the big five races at Prestbury Park than they managed 12 months ago, according to Coral’s 2023 Cheltenham Festival betting.

It was a clean sweep for Irish-trained horses in the Champion Hurdle, Champion Chase, Ryanair Chase, Stayers’ Hurdle and Gold Cup last year but Coral’s 2023 Cheltenham odds paint a much more optimistic picture for British runners.

Two wins for the home team in the top five races is the 11/8 favourite while it is 5/2 for one of the quintet to be won by a UK-trained runner, and 11/4 is on offer for a hat-trick of British successes.

A repeat of last year’s blank is 14/1 in the Cheltenham Festival betting while the roles to be reversed and a home clean sweep is the 80/1 outsider.

Coral’s David Stevens said: “The Irish domination of last year’s Cheltenham Festival included a clean sweep of the five championship contests, but the outlook looks much less one-sided heading into next month’s meeting, with Nicky Henderson responsible for two hot favourites in Constitution Hill and Shishkin, and Edwardstone sharing Champion Chase favouritism with Energumene.

“The Irish do have a virtual monopoly on the Stayers’ Hurdle betting, and Galopin Des Champs is clear market leader for the Gold Cup, but our odds suggest the home team should have something to celebrate this time around.”

From today (February 21), Coral is offering the non-runner money back concession on all the Cheltenham Festival races, having previously been offering it on the big five championship races.

Stevens added: “As the big four days draw ever closer, plenty of Cheltenham contenders still have more than one possible target next month, so we’re extending the safety net of non-runner money back to all the Festival races from Tuesday, an offer available online and in Coral shops.”
