Chelmsford preview: Lots to like about Lovely Memory

Trainer Saeed bin Suroor has his team in good form, and Lovely Memory can provide him with another success in the 1m 2f handicap on today’s twilight card at Chelmsford (18.15).
The filly has only had five starts and shaped really well on the second of those as a juvenile when a one length runner-up to the now 104-rated Jellicle Ball at Kempton.
It was a run full of promise, and Lovely Memory duly built on it to make a winning seasonal reappearance over 1m at this venue.
The three-year-old showed plenty of pace to track the leaders before taking up the running at the two marker and powering clear to score readily by 3 3/4 lengths from subsequent winner Feng Shui.
Lovely Memory backed that up with a solid third on handicap debut at Pontefract, and caught the eye last time out over 1m at this venue when staying on late to finish a never nearer 1 1/4 length fourth of 13 to Apostle.
It was a performance which suggested that the daughter of Shamardal was crying out for a step up in trip, and today’s extra two furlongs look sure to suit.
Lovely Memory also remains unexposed and is clearly going the right way, and on her run behind Jellicle Ball looks potentially very well-treated off a mark of 88.
Sarsted aiming to stay unbeaten at Chelmsford
In the 1m 2f handicap (17.40), Sarsted can defy top weight to make it 2-2 at the track.
The Hughie Morrison trained gelding showed a good attitude to score over course and distance back in July when digging deep and finding plenty when pressed inside the last to beat Giantouch by 1/2 a length off a mark of 79.
Sarsted then failed to sparkle in two runs on the turf, but shaped far better last time out at Wolverhampton when fading late on to finish a 1 1/4 length sixth of nine to King Torus off a rating of 84.
It was an effort which suggested the three-year-old was coming back for form, and the son of Paco Boy has since been dropped 2lb to 82.
That is just 3lb higher than when last successful and gives Sarsted major claims at the weights of getting back to winning ways.
