Charging Rams to take down confidence-lacking MK Dons

Published:

Both MK Dons (13/5 chances with Coral for victory) and Derby County (even-money away favourites) have won just two of their opening eight Championship games this season, but the difference is that they have lost five and once respectively.

The Rams’ drew their first four fixtures, but have finally picked up momentum, triumphing in two of their previous three, as they face the Dons, who are on a run of four straight defeats.

Derby have never faced MK Dons since they were founded as a new club in 2004, but do have history with their predecessors, now-defunct Wimbledon.

They drew eight of their 20 head-to-heads, more than each team won against the other, so a share of the spoils at their new stadium:mk in Milton Keynes is enticing at 5/2.

The hosts, though, come into this clash on the back of a 6-0 thrashing at home in the Capital One Cup to Premier League side Southampton, so will certainly be low in confidence. Derby, therefore, are tempting 12/5 chances to take advantage and win to nil.

For goals, Rams boss Paul Clement will be hoping his star striker this term Chris Martin can add to his tally of four. The Scotland international is 8/5 to score again anytime.

Former Real Madrid assistant coach Clement has a whole host of attacking talent to turn to, with the likes of Darren Bent, Thomas Ince, Johnny Russell and Andreas Weimann also available. They are respective 2/1, 11/5, 11/5 and 23/10 shouts in the same market.

MK Dons’ Carl Baker has also struck four times this term, and the goalscoring midfielder is a tasty 14/5 chance, but strikers Simon Church (5/2) and Nicky Maynard (12/5) are shorter priced.

Young attacker Cristian Benavente (4/1), signed from Los Blancos, West Ham United loanee Diego Poyet (13/2) and former Bayern Munich-owned player Dale Jennings (4/1) are also ones to look out for.

Coral’s top tip: MK Dons have lost three times to nil in the league this season, and were most recently thrashed 6-0 at home by the Saints, so back Derby to win without conceding at 12/5
