Millers wait for win in October

Despite appointing former Leeds United boss Neil Redfearn to replace Steve Evans, who has ironically ended up in the Elland Road dugout, Rotherham United are yet to see a real response from their players to the change of manager.

A battling home draw with high-fliers Reading in midweek saw the Millers pick up their first point under their new boss, but they are still odds-on 4/6 favourites in Coral’s Championship relegation market.

With Rotherham 2/1 outsiders for a first win with Redfearn in charge, opponents Sheffield Wednesday are 6/4 favourites to take all the points back to Hillsborough as they’re on a seven-match unbeaten run with Carlos Carvalhal at the helm.

Who will strike next for Wednesday?

Thanks to a late rally, the Owls triumphed in this fixture last term 3-2 with three different players finding the net. Variety they say is the spice of life, and that maxim is clearly one that emanates from the Steel City, as the last six Wednesday scorers have all come from different sources.

With the anytime market wide open, it’s usual suspects Fernando Forestieri (7/4), Lewis McGugan (top value at 5/1) and Atdhe Nuhiu (11/2 to be on target last again) that punters should look to for goals.

Defence is grist to the Millers

Rotherham’s current plight among the Championship’s bottom three owes much to the fact their last three scorers have all been defenders, including Danny Collins, with forward pair Matt Derbyshire and Jonson Clarke-Harris’s goals drying up. Both are 7/4 to address that anytime.

Getting goals isn’t the Millers’ problem; they’ve drawn a blank just once this term, but are struggling to keep them out. And that is why backing an Owls victory with both teams being on target at tasty odds of 21/5 is well worth a wager.
