Cavani chasing Premier League link-up

Uruguay and PSG forward Edinson Cavani has reportedly asked his agent to “investigate” a possible move to the Premier League.

Since arriving at the Parc des Princes last summer, he has lived in the limelight of main man Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who manager Laurent Blanc utilises in a central role, which means Cavani has been shunted out to the right wing.

His transfer from Napoli for a reported €64.5m, was a record for the French league, however he hasn’t enjoyed the best World Cup, despite recording a goal and an assist.

Speaking at the World Cup in Brazil, Cavani said: “In football you never know. Anything can happen. One day you’re in one team and they next day you can be in another.”

Manchester United, are the favourites to sign him, being odds-on at 11/10, though it is understood that he will seek assurances from Louis van Gaal of regular playing time. The Dutchman’s dilemma is accommodating Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney, Ander Herrera and Juan Mata into one team, plus any further signings that could include Cavani. It has been suggested that Rooney could possibly be offered in part-exchange for the Uruguayan.

At 7/1, Chelsea are second favourites, although having just signed centre forward Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid, Cavani could be deemed a luxury they don’t need. However, Jose Mourinho is reportedly keen to add another striker to his ranks, after Samuel Eto’o left and one of either Demba Ba or Fernando Torres likely to follow.

Arsenal, at 12/1 would be an interesting prospect. Although the Gunners have just signed Alexis Sanchez, the Chilean is versatile and Cavani would provide an intriguing alternative to him or target man Olivier Giroud.

Manuel Pellegrini’s Manchester City are 10/1 to sign him, however are unlikely unless they one of their four strikers they have already. Added to this, they are also under Financial Fair Play scrutiny and should they complete the capture of Porto centre back Eliaquim Mangala for a reported £32m they wouldn’t have much left in the kitty.
