Cardiff v Tottenham betting tips: Can Kane and co bounce back?
Published:Odds and preview for Premier League clash
After a shock 3-1 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, Tottenham Hotspur’s title charge has been halted. But can they get it back on track away at Cardiff City?
The Bluebirds picked up a surprise result too at the weekend, landing a 1-0 win away at Leicester City.
It all serves to highlight the recent unpredictability of the Premier League. Is another surprise in store tonight? We’ll find out with the game live on Sky Sports at 5.30…
Head-to-head
This fixture hasn’t been a thriller in recent years. In three Premier League meetings, Tottenham have won each by a 1-0 scoreline.
Form-wise, Neil Warnock’s hosts come into this one with four points and a pair of clean sheets in their last two games. The Welsh side have been far stronger on home soil this season too, and have won four of their last six at the Cardiff City stadium.
As for Spurs, they were flying over the Christmas period with 6-2 and 5-0 wins over Everton and Bournemouth respectively, before that collapse to Wolves. They have been excellent on the road this term, however, winning nine of 11 away from Wembley.
Likely XIs
What does Mauricio Pochettino do here? There doesn’t seem to be much the Argentine can do except go again. Lucas Moura started on the bench against Wolves, so he could get a reprise this evening.
With Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama both still out, Harry Winks and Moussa Sissoko will start in central midfield.
Warnock made several changes for that win over Leicester, but he may choose to stick with it here.
Callum Peterson will continue his lone-man-up-top role, with Junior Hoilett, Bobby Reid and Josh Murphy battling for the wide positions.
Key Battles
Wolves completely nullified Spurs in the second half at Wembley on Saturday. Tottenham didn’t even have a shot on target.
Cardiff don’t have the players to play in the same style, but it will have given Neil Warnock food for thought. Are Spurs feeling the festive fatigue?
Expect another combative and disciplined performance from the hosts. One which Pochettino and his Spurs side would prefer to do without.
But it Cardiff give Christian Eriksen time on the ball, and allow the attack force of Dele Alli, Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min freedom to move about, then they could be in trouble.
Match odds
Despite Saturday’s blip, Spurs are the 1/2 favourites for this one. Cardiff are 11/2 for a second win in succession, while a draw is 17/4.
Harry Kane has never scored against Cardiff, but the England international did open the scoring last weekend and is 5/1 favourite to do so again tonight.
Peterson and Reid top Cardiff’s first goalscorer betting at 9/1 apiece, while the anytime market features Kane at 7/10, Peterson at 11/4, and Son at 8/5.
