The second round gets underway this evening

The Carabao Cup continues tonight as Premier League teams enter the fray, with many of them looking to avoid an embarrassing early round exit.

There are 16 ties to look forward to, including a London derby as West Ham welcome Charlton to the London Stadium.

After a quiet summer in the transfer market, combined with an opening day defeat to Newcastle, the Hammers will be desperate to appease their fans by reaching the third round.

Elsewhere, Aston Villa visit Burton Albion, Crystal Palace travel to Bournemouth, Newcastle host Blackburn Rovers and Watford face Oxford United.

Ahead of the action, we’ve taken a look at some of the key markets in tonight’s headline matches.

West Ham v Charlton (19:30)

After Hammers fans protested against the club’s board at the weekend, tonight’s clash with Charlton is a must win for the hosts. The Premier League side are 1/3 to win in 90 minutes, with the visitors the underdogs at 9/1.

These two sides last met in 2007, when they were both in the top flight. They’re now two leagues apart and West Ham are 9/1 to assert their dominance and score over 4.5 goals.

David Moyes may select a strong team in order to get back to winning ways and Michail Antonio is the likeliest goalscorer at 8/11. Conor Washington was on the scoresheet as Charlton started their League One campaign with a win and the striker is 10/3 to net anytime or 9/1 to open the scoring.

Newcastle v Blackburn Rovers (19:30)

After a comfortable 2-0 win at West Ham on Saturday, Newcastle are odds-on to make it back-to-back wins tonight at 7/10. Blackburn are going at 4/1 after conceding a late winner at Bournemouth on the opening day.

Despite the defeat, Rovers scored twice on the south coast and BTTS can be backed at 3/4, while over 3.5 goals is priced at 2/1.

Ryan Fraser could make his Newcastle debut as he seeks match fitness and the Scot is 12/5 to hit the ground running with a goal. Meanwhile, Blackburn marksman Adam Armstrong is 11/2 to break the deadlock.

Bournemouth v Crystal Palace (19:45)

Both sides kicked off the new campaign with a win, although in different divisions following Bournemouth’s relegation to the Championship last term. Palace are the slight pre-match favourites at 27/20, while the hosts can be backed at 2/1.

Three of the last six meeting between the pair have seen at least four goals, including a 5-3 thriller, and over 3.5 goals is priced at 11/5. A repeat of that 5-3 win in Palace’s favour is going at 200/1.

Following Callum Wilson’s departure, and with Josh King expected to follow, Dominic Solanke is Bournemouth’s main man this season. The former Liverpool striker is 11/5 to net anytime against Palace.

Meanwhile, Roy Hodgson has hinted that summer signing Eberechi Eze could be handed a full debut tonight. The tricky midfielder is priced at 6/1 to score first at the Vitality Stadium.

Burton Albion v Aston Villa (19:45)

It should be pretty straightforward for Villa tonight according to our traders. The visitors are priced at 2/5 to win in 90 minutes, with hosts Burton the longshots at 7/1.

Villa are yet to play competitively this season and they’ll be looking to start in style. Dean Smith’s side are 21/5 to score over 3.5 goals and 13/10 to win to nil.

The Premier League outfit smashed their transfer record to bring in striker Ollie Watkins from Brentford this summer and he’s odds-on at 5/6 to net anytime this evening. Burton’s likeliest hero is Kane Hemmings who can be backed at 16/5 to get on the scoresheet.
