Brentford v Tottenham Betting Tips: Can Spurs avoid upset to reach Carabao Cup final?
Published:Odds and preview for Carabao Cup semi-final
Brentford host Tottenham Hotspur tonight in the Carabao Cup semi-finals, a game that Jose Mourinho believes is the biggest since he took charge of the North London club.
Spurs haven’t lifted a trophy since 2008, can they take a big step towards ending that drought?
This year’s semi-finals will only be a one-legged affair amid the hectic schedule. The winner of tonight’s tie will face Manchester City or Manchester United in the final in April.
Tottenham are clear 4/9 favourites to win in 90 minutes here, with Brentford out at 13/2. It’s 7/2 that the score finishes level after normal time.
Spurs have only kept one clean sheet in their last six games however – Tottenham and Both Sides to Score is 2/1.
Harry Kane and Son Heung-min have both been in red-hot form this season. Kane is 23/10 to score first or 4/6 anytime, with Son priced at 13/5 and 5/6 respectively.
Ivan Toney is the joint top scorer in the Championship with 16 goals this term. He’s 9/5 to net for the Bees, with Marcus Forss a 13/5 shot.
Spurs may play a division above Brentford, but they can’t afford to take Thomas Frank’s side lightly. They’re expected to name their strongest team, with a cup final now within reach.
The Bees are on a 16-game unbeaten run, winning each of their last four. They’ve also knocked out several top-flight sides already to reach this stage, overcoming Newcastle United, Fulham, West Bromwich Albion and Southampton.
The North London side look to have ended a poor run with a convincing 3-0 win over Leeds United last weekend. But as impressive as that was, it’s games like this that the club brought Jose Mourinho in for.
Spurs have won many plaudits in recent years, without being able to take the next step and win a trophy. There are few managers with a better track record of delivering silverware than Mourinho. There may be some doubts about his style of play, but many Tottenham fans won’t be too concerned if he leads the club to success.
Mourinho has already won this competition four times, three times with Chelsea and once with Manchester United. He’s used success here as a springboard for more glory in the past two – two of his three Premier League title wins came after winning the League Cup.
With Spurs four points off the top with a game in hand, they’re in the title picture this term. Mourinho will believe that a win tonight could set the club up for much more success in the near future.
