Breeders’ Cup betting: Two UK-trained winners expected

Ahead of this year’s Breeders’ Cup meeting, Coral is betting on how many UK-trained winners there will be over the two days at Santa Anita.

Two UK winners is the 7/4 favourite in the Breeders’ Cup betting while one is 9/4 and three 7/2, with none priced at 7/1 and four or more at 8/1.

Coral are also betting on the number of Irish-trained winners, with one the 6/4 favourite, and European trained winners for which four is the 2/1 market leader.

Coral’s David Stevens said: “The European riders dominate the betting for the turf races at this year’s Breeders’ Cup. As a result we think there should be plenty for the visitors to celebrate at Santa Anita, with four winners our 2/1 favourite and a blank two days priced at 50/1.”

The first race on Saturday is the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf.

Frankie Dettori feels the decision to run Inspiral in the race rather than the Mile is the correct call.

John and Thady Gosden’s star, the 9/4 favourite ahead of Warm Heart (5/2), will be running over 10 furlongs for the first time.

But Dettori believes that with the tight nature of the Santa Anita track, a longer trip is a safer choice as a horse’s chance is not as dependent on a good draw.

The Italian teamed up with the multiple Group One winner on Tuesday morning and said: “Inspiral took to the pony really well and was quiet by her standards.

“Sometimes the Mile turf race here is very draw dependent so I think it was a good decision to go for the longer race. She doesn’t need any introduction, she was a champion at two and at three and is top drawer.”

Dettori will also team up with his Champion Stakes-winning partner King Of Steel (11/2) in the Breeders’ Cup Turf.

It is, however, a short turnaround from Champions Day, which was two weeks ago.

“King Of Steel wouldn’t be running unless Roger (Varian) felt he had taken his race well,” said Dettori. “The atmosphere (at Ascot) was unreal and I thought the roof was going to come off the stand.

“He had to fight for it and had a hard race but he weighs 570 kilos. He has plenty of meat there and I’m sure Roger wouldn’t bring him unless he was happy.”

Auguste Rodin is the 5/2 favourite for the Turf, with Mostahdaf priced at 11/4.

Mostahdaf has been rerouted after the ground turned testing at Ascot on Champions Day.

His victories in the Prince of Wales’s Stakes and Juddmonte International were unquestionably two of the best displays of the season by any horse.

Mostahdaf will be reunited with Jim Crowley due to his retainer with owners Shadwell but Dettori stepped in for him at York while he was banned.

Live In The Dream, a shock winner of the Nunthorpe at York earlier this year, is the 10/3 favourite for the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint.

Coral’s Lewis Knowles said: “’This really would be fairytale stuff if Live In The Dream can win at Santa Anita this weekend.

“I’m sure Adam West couldn’t have dreamt he’d have won the Nunthorpe this year but a victory at Santa Anita would surely even eclipse that win at York.”
