Norwich sign Steven Naismith

Norwich City have signed Scotland international attacker Steven Naismith from Everton on a three-and-a-half-year deal for a reported fee of around £8.5m.

“Norwich have displayed class in the way they’ve done their business all the way through, and they’ve been very persistent,” Naismith said.

“They’ve been fantastic in the sense of showing how much they wanted me, and I’m delighted to be here.”

The Canaries have moved quickly to bolster their roster in the face of a scrap for Premier League survival, adding the experience of adaptable and experienced Naismith to their squad.

Now 29, the 41-capped Scotland forward was a firm fan favourite among Toffees support at Goodison Park, due to his nose for a crucial goal, including a heroic and memorable hat-trick against Chelsea earlier this term.

A player with heart, Naismith should not struggle to win over the Carrow Road crowd, with his dogged determination, graft and workrate making him just the type of player to turn the tide in a relegation fight.

Also adaptable, the Scot can fill gaps on the wing, as an attacking midfielder or even up top, and boasts four goals across all competitions this campaign despite limited game time and being mainly deployed out wide.

Everton possess an abundance of attacking options including Arouna Kone, Romelu Lukaku, Ross Barkley, Kevin Mirallas and Gerard Deulofeu, making Naismith surplus to requirements, while the Canaries have struggled to get their attack on-song of late.

Approaching his 30s, the former Rangers and Kilmarnock man ends a three-and-a-half season stint at Goodison Park, over which the intelligent utility man struck 25 times.
