Hasselbaink is new QPR boss

QPR sign exciting manager Hasselbaink

After much searching around, following the sacking of Chris Ramsey around a month ago, Championship club QPR have finally announced Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink as their new boss.

The Dutchman leaves former side Burton Albion in a great position top of League One, and has now signed a rolling contract with the Hoops (9/1 with Coral for a top six finish).

“It was not an easy decision to leave Burton, but when you get the opportunity to come somewhere like QPR, with the club where it is and the squad we have at our disposal, it was something I couldn’t turn down,” Hasselbaink, who is the fourth permanent appointment at QPR in just under as many years, said.

“I feel that this is a club on the up, it has an exciting feeling about it. And I want to keep that feeling going by taking more positive strides forward.

Hasselbaink a rising star in management

While Hasselbaink is better known as a player, having earned 23 caps for his country and being a prolific striker for the likes of Leeds United, Middlesbrough and Chelsea, he is certainly fast becoming one of the hottest managerial properties.

Although his first taste of being head coach was not so much of a success, as he failed to get Royal Antwerp promoted from the Belgian Second Division in 2014, he was a revelation at Burton.

Hasselbaink guided the Staffordshire side to the League Two title and thus up to the English third-tier for the first time in the club’s history, and has remarkably taken them to the top of that table despite spending little money last summer.

However, at QPR it will certainly be a different kind of task, with the west Londoners boasting a wealth of talent and money to spend, although they have had recent financial issues.

Promotion still on cards for Hoops

The Hoops currently lie in 12th place and five points off the play-off places in the Championship table after 18 games, and are highly tempting 18/1 shouts to go straight back up to the Premier League this season.

Former permanent boss Neil Warnock took temporary charge of the club while the owners searched for a new permanent boss, and will take continue in the hotseat for their Thursday night league match at Reading, who they are 14/5 to beat.
