Brazil v Chile betting tips: Hosts looking strong so far

Preview and odds for the quarter-final

The hosts are the clear favourites to retain their Copa America crown and we have analysed the odds to highlight some potential Brazil v Chile betting tips ahead of their quarter-final.

Brazil cruised through the group stage without defeat but cannot afford to get complacent as the knockout stage begins this weekend.

Their quarter-final kicks off at 1am UK time on Saturday and is live on the BBC iPlayer and BBC Sport website.

Brazil v Chile match odds

Brazil have done little to give their Copa America rivals encouragement hope they will slip up.

Being on home soil may not be much of an advantage due to the lack of spectators but Brazil topped Group B with 10 points and 10 goals.

The only blemish on their record was a 1-1 draw with Ecuador when top spot in the group was already guaranteed and Tite understandably opted to rotate his squad.

They had to come from behind to beat Colombia in their previous game so Brazil’s defence can be breached but they are 2/5 to win in 90 minutes, with a Brazil win and both teams to score available at 13/5.

Chile won the Copa America in 2015 and 2016 and will feel they can challenge for a third title in four editions if they can produce an upset here.

They had to settle for fourth place in Group A with one win and two draws from their four matches, scoring just three goals. The only teams to score fewer goals – Bolivia and Venezuela – have been eliminated.

Chile held Argentina and Uruguay to 1-1 draws so look capable of challenging the top teams and the match is 18/5 to go to extra time, with Chile 9/1 to cause an upset in 90 minutes.

Brazil v Chile head-to-head

This is the first meeting between these teams since 2017 when they met in qualifying ahead of the 2018 World Cup.

Brazil were 3-0 winners on that occasion but had to be patient, with Paulinho breaking the deadlock 10 minutes into the second half before Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus added a brace.

Chile won 2-0 in the previous meeting in 2015 and the first half has been goalless in the last three encounters.

That trend is 33/20 to continue while Brazil to win after drawing at half-time can be added to Brazil v Chile betting tips at 13/5.

Previous XI

Chile: Bravo, Mena, Isla, Sierralta, Medel, Pinares, Vidal, Alarcon, Aranguiz, Vargas, Brereton.

Key battles

Chile are likely to have Claudio Bravo in goal and the former Manchester City man will be out to stop his old team-mate Jesus getting on the scoresheet.

Jesus is yet to get off the mark at the Copa America but is 17/10 to put that right while Neymar is the clear favourite to open the scoring at 14/5 and looks certain to return to Brazil’s starting XI.
