Boris Johnson backed to replace David Cameron

The news that Boris Johnson is to campaign for the UK to leave the European Union has prompted a gamble on him becoming the next Conservative Party Leader and the next Prime Minister.

Leading bookmaker, Coral, has reacted to the surge of bets on the London Mayor by shortening the odds on Boris becoming the next leader of the Tories to 11/4 from 3/1, and have also cut the odds on him becoming the next Prime Minister to 11/4 from 7/2.

“The news that Boris is to take on David Cameron over Europe has led to a major gamble on him to take over Cameron’s jobs too,” reported Simon Clare, Coral Spokesman.

Coral is betting on the result of the EU Referendum, and currently makes a majority vote to remain the European Union the 2/7 favourite, with a majority vote to leave the EU the outsider at 5/2.

“Whilst the odds are currently pointing to the British public voting to stay in Europe, it wouldn’t take a huge amount to see those odds change, and the support of a major personality like Boris Johnson could well have an impact,” added Clare.
