The Coral ambassador previews his Saturday rides

With four runs at Kelso on the cards.

Saturday
Kelso 12.25 – Caldwell

Caldwell has run OK on his two starts this season, but he just needs to get a little bit sharper at his hurdles. That will come as he gains experience I’m sure, and if he can improve at his jumping it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him get involved here.

Kelso 14.05 – War Lord

War Lord won well at Haydock earlier in the season, beating Umbrigado, and was then third back at the same track. He was disappointing at Ascot on his last run, but the yard’s in better form now, and on his best form he’d definitely have a chance in what is a wide open race.

Kelso 14.40 – Cloth Cap

Cloth Cap gave me a great day when winning the Ladbrokes Trophy, and I’m delighted to have kept the ride here, as he was a spare ride for me at Newbury, so a big thanks goes to owner Trevor Hemmings and Jonjo O’Neill. We have a bit to find at the weights, but conditions will suit him here, and the way he won the Ladbrokes says there should be more to come.

He is favourite for the Grand National, but I’ve been in the game long enough to know that you take it one race at a time, so I’m not thinking about Aintree at this stage, let’s see what happens here first!

Kelso 15.15 – Night Edition

Everything just happened too quickly for Night Edition around Newbury last time, they went a hell of a gallop and he could never get into it.  However he is better than he showed that day, and whilst this Morebattle is still a really competitive contest, it should be slightly calmer waters for him compared to Newbury, and I hope he’ll be seen to better effect.
