Tom Scudamore: “I think Adagio will take all the beating here”
Coral ambassador previews his Saturday rides at Cheltenham’s International meeting
Cheltenham 12.05 – Adagio
Adagio has taken to hurdling really well, and his second to Duffle Coat at Cheltenham last month was a good performance.
We think he’s improved again for that run, and if so, I’d like to think he’ll take plenty of beating here.
Cheltenham 12.40 – Lieutenant Rocco
Only a small field for this novices’ chase, and although Lieutenant Rocco is a nice horse, we do have plenty to find with the other three runners on official ratings.
That said, he has some nice form as a hurdler, and can be expected to come on for his first run over fences, so even against three classy rivals it would be no surprise to see him outrun his mark.
Cheltenham 13.15 – Sky Pirate
It’s great to team up with Jonjo O’Neill again, a fortnight after our Ladbrokes Trophy win, and like Cloth Cap, Sky Pirate gets in at the bottom of the handicap here.
He’s always threatened to win a nice race, and hopefully this stiff two miles trip will suit him. His fifth place in the big race here last month was a good run.
As I say he’s dropping back down in trip but if he runs his usual consistent race I’d hope we’d be in contention two from home and then we’ll see what happens, but it’s a lovely ride to pick up.
Cheltenham 14.25 – Promising Milan
Another ride for Lieutenant Rocco’s connections, Promising Milan won his point-to-point in Ireland last month.
This is a Grade 2 so they’re aiming him quite high for his first start over hurdles, but I’ve sat on him and home and he schooled quite nicely. We’ll see where we are with him after this run, it should tell us plenty.
Cheltenham 15.00 – Summerville Boy
Winner of the Supreme Novices’ two years ago, Summerville Boy has been a classy performer over a variety of trips from two miles to three.
This race is over the shortest distance, but with Goshen in the field it will be a truly run race, bringing stamina into play, and I’m sure we’ll be keeping on when others have cried enough, I’m really looking forward to it.
