Coral ambassador previews his Wednesday rides at York

2.25 York – Ehraz

A big four days on the Knavesmire begins with one of my big chances of the week, Ehraz in the Acomb.

He ran a very promising race on debut in what is often a decent Newmarket maiden. The winner that day, Noble Truth, runs again here, but my fellow was a little bit green that day, so I wouldn’t be worried about taking on the Godolphin colt again.

We then went to Ascot, where he absolutely bolted up and honestly, it didn’t surprise me, he had given me such a nice feel at Newmarket and in his homework.  That win was over six furlongs and we step back up to seven here, which I don’t think will be an issue, even though his breeding is quite speedy.

At this stage, he would have to be our best two-year-old and he is very exciting so hopefully he can take this next step up. This race will tell us if the seven furlongs of the Dewhurst or the furlong shorter Middle Park Stakes are realistic end-of-season targets. I believe they are.

3.35 York – Mohaafeth

The shape of the Juddmonte International changed dramatically when St Mark’s Basilica was ruled out earlier in the week, but even without that colt, this is still a top-class race with two classy horses in Mishriff and Love at the head of the betting.

I can discount Mohaafeth’s last run. I rode him to beat Armory that day, but our pacemaker went too slowly and the race never unfolded satisfactorily.

Up to that point he’d done nothing but improve this season, and this race should be set up much better for him, with plenty of pace in the race seemingly.

Love will need every yard of this trip but by contrast I’m not sure Alcohol Free will get the trip, on either breeding or running style.

On ratings my fellow does need to improve to beat the likes of the two fillies and Mishriff, but we’re drawn well, the race should be run to suit him, and I think he’ll run a big race. It’s just whether he’s good enough at this stage of his career. I’m looking forward to finding out.

5.20 York – Jadhlaan

Jadhlaan won well at York back in June, after which we stepped him up to Group Two level at Newmarket.

Although he finished down the field that day, he actually ran OK and backed that up with a good second in a handicap at Glorious Goodwood.

We stick in handicap company here, it’s a really competitive race but I like this fellow and I hope he can run a nice race.
