Jim Crowley: “Motagally must come here with a great chance”
Coral ambassador previews Sunday’s rides at Newmarket
Newmarket 13.15 – Haseef
I haven’t had a chance to sit on this one at home yet, so we’ll know much more after this debut run, as with so many runners right now!
Newmarket 13.50 – Faylaq
Faylaq is one of the best-bred horses in training – by Dubawi out of Danedream – and he just didn’t show what I thought he was capable of last year. I still really like the horse, he’s got bags of quality, has been working well at home and I’m hopeful he’s better than he showed us last year.
Newmarket 15.00 – Snow Shower
It’s always great to pick up a spare ride for Sir Michael Stoute, and in a race I’ve won twice in recent years, on Talent and Maqsad. This filly won her only start at two, at Salisbury, and she’s clearly a very nice filly in the right hands, and we’ll find out if she’s an Oaks class filly here.
Newmarket 15.35 – Qipco 1,000 Guineas
I haven’t got a ride in the 1,000 Guineas, but if I could pick one to be on, it would have to be the favourite Quadrilateral. Unbeaten in three, this daughter of Frankel has been there and done it in terms of this Newmarket mile, winning the Fillies’ Mile last year, and I can see her doing the business again.
Newmarket 16.10 – Zhui Feng
Zhui Feng is a proper yard favourite, and a previous Hunt Cup winner who is now creeping down in the handicap. He’s a forward runner so we can get on with it here, this track should suit, and I think he can run well at a decent price.
Newmarket 17.20 – Montather
Montather is another beautifully bred son of Dubawi, he won his only start last year on the Chelmsford all weather, and so he does have to carry the penalty for that victory here, but he’s a lovely prospect and I’d hope he’d show that here.
Newmarket 17.55 – Hukum
Hukum progressed from his debut third to win at Kempton last November, coming from a long way back that day. By Sea The Stars, he was a big baby then, but Owen [Burrows] always thought a lot of him, and thought he could develop into a Derby horse. This will tell us if that’s possible.
Newmarket 18.30 – Motagally
My final ride on a busy Sunday is Motagally in the 5-furlong handicap. He improved bundles towards the end of last season, winning his final two starts, and if he can continue on that path, he must come here with a great chance.
