Coral ambassador previews Saturday’s rides at York

York 12.55 – Chairmanic

It’s been another decent week, and hopefully that form will continue over the weekend and into next week, for what is always a big five days at Glorious Goodwood.

I start on Chairmanic, in the colours made famous by so many Robert Sangster-owned stars of the past. He looks a nice progressive sort, who got off the mark at Haydock last time.

That was over six furlongs, but he showed plenty of dash that day so this drop back to five won’t be an issue, and I’d think he’s got a good chance here.

York 13.30 – Shady McCoy

I’ve ridden the veteran Shady McCoy on a few occasions before, but then so have most jockeys now!

He was a winner last time out so is clearly in good heart, and although he’s gone up six pounds for that win, I’d say he can still be competitive here, with the top weight Prompting the one to beat.

I’ve ridden plenty for his trainer Ian Williams, even over jumps, that’s how far we go back, but he always seems to put me on those with a chance!

York 14.40 – Elarqam

My big ride of the day, and he’s bidding to win this Group Two prize for the second year running. He also finished third in the Juddmonte International, so he clearly suits York.

We tried him over a mile and a half at Royal Ascot last time, but the rain came and it just turned the race into a slog and he didn’t quite get home. I wouldn’t rule out trying him over that trip again but this drop back makes sense.

The form of his Haydock second first time out this season looks great, with Lord North winning the Prince Of Wales’s, we had Telecaster in third that day and I’d hope we’d take all the beating here.

York 15.15 – Elwazir

Elwazir is a beautifully bred but slightly disappointing type, although his last run gave us some encouragement.

He’s a big strong galloping sort so the long York straight should suit him, he’s got ability but he doesn’t always show it, he has proved hard to win with but hopefully he’ll put his best foot forward here.

Jim Crowley

Jim Crowley began his flat racing career as an amateur before switching to National Hunt racing, where he landed approximately 300 winners. He then returned to the flat to ride for sister-in-law Amanda Perrett. After years of hard work, Jim was finally rewarded when we won the 2016 Stobart Flat Jockey Championship with an incredible 148 winners. That was followed by a lucrative retained partnership with leading owner Sheikh Hamdan al-Maktoum, for whom he is the no.1 jockey.
