Coral ambassador previews his rides from Day two of Glorious Goodwood

Goodwood 14:15 – Sound Of Cannons

Day two begins for me on Sound Of Cannons for Brian Meehan. He’s been highly tried in his career so far, finishing fourth in a Group 1 in France as a two-year-old, and then in a Group 2 at Royal Ascot.

On his last run he was last of six in the Bahrain Trophy which I won on Al Aasy, so this drop back into handicap company should help him, although he did run very free that.

That said, these sorts of races at this meeting are always hard fought. If he could run into a place, that would be a step forward.

Goodwood 15:15 – Mohaather

The Sussex Stakes is probably the race of the season so far, with two Guineas winners in Siskin and Kameko, a two-time Royal Ascot winner in Circus Maximus, and of course my fellow, so impressive at Ascot last time, when he made amends for that frustrating run in the Queen Anne, when nothing went right for us.

Mohaather is versatile as far as the going is concerned. Good ground will be absolutely fine for him, but a little bit slower or quicker than that will make no difference.

He also showed at Ascot last time that he doesn’t need to be dropped in, if need be, I can make more use of him. I’m also happy being drawn in 4, particularly with the two Classic winners drawn in 1 and 2.

We have got to give the three-year-olds eight pounds, but the horse is in great order. He’s got no miles on the clock, we’ve always rated him highly, and I really think he can run a big race in what is the most important contest of the week.

I know he’s good, we just don’t know how good, but we’ll find out here. There’s no one rival I’m particularly mindful of, there’s so much quality in the field.

I’ll be aware of how the three Ballydoyle runners are going, but ultimately my horse is a very well-balanced runner. He’s got that blend of speed and stamina, and I have no worries that he’ll handle the track.

Goodwood 16:20 – Zhui Feng

Zhui Feng is a grand old horse, and although he disappointed a little bit last time, his runs prior to that were encouraging.

He’s got winning form around Goodwood, which is always a plus, and the handicapper has given him a bit of a chance.

Drawn 3 in a 20-runner field here is also a plus, so hopefully he can run a decent race.

Jim.
