Big Match Breakdown: West Brom v Arsenal
Published:The last top-flight action of the year
The final Premier League match of 2017 sees West Bromwich Albion take on Arsenal.
Arsene Wenger will take charge of his 811th Premier League game at the Hawthorns, overtaking Sir Alex Ferguson’s record. But he’ll be more concerned about picking up three points to close the gap on the top four.
West Brom boss Alan Pardew will be just as eager to secure a win. His side are without a win since August and are bottom of the table.
Before the game kicks off, here’s the Coral News Team with all the lowdown…
Head to Head
Arsenal have struggled at the Hawthorns recently. West Brom have won this fixture in each of the last two years. And the Gunners have only left with a win on one of their last five visits there in all competitions.
Likely XIs
Salomon Rondon is a doubt for the home side. Hal Robson-Kanu is the most likely replacement up front. The hectic schedule could give Grzegorz Krychowiak and James McLean a chance to impress.
Alexandre Lacazette is set to continue up front for Arsenal as Olivier Giroud is injured. Francis Coquelin could also come in for Granit Xhaka.
Key Battles
Alexis Sanchez looked back to his best in Arsenal’s win over Crystal Palace. If he’s on it, West Brom could be in for a long afternoon. Their right winger will need to track back so the full-back isn’t isolated.
West Brom might be in poor form but if they can disrupt Arsenal’s rhythm, they’ve got a chance to cause an upset. The Gunners could struggle if they’re put under heavy aerial pressure.
Match Odds
West Brom have only scored once in their last three home games. Even though the Arsenal defence isn’t particularly convincing, there’s value in Arsenal to Win to Nil at 15/8.
The home side may not be prolific but there’s still been Over 2.5 Goals in six of the last eight games at the Hawthorns. Arsenal and Over 2.5 Goals is 29/20.
Jack Wilshere’s been drawing the plaudits in recent weeks. He’s 4/1 to take it up a level with a first league strike since his Goal of the Season against the Baggies on the final day of the 2014-15 campaign.
Lacazette is a more likely scorer. He got both goals in Arsenal’s 2-0 win over West Brom earlier this season. The France ace is 7/2 to open the scoring.
