Well-weighted Burtonwood odds to strike at Beverley
Burtonwood is running at the top of his game at present and looks the answer to the 5f handicap on today’s card at Beverley (15:20).
The Julie Camacho trained gelding scored in good style over course and distance back in June off a mark of 64, also running a blinder on his penultimate outing at this Yorkshire venue third off 68.
Burtonwood’s saddle slipped early in the latter and jockey Kieran Schofield also lost his irons with two furlongs to go.
It was to the four-year-old’s credit that he stayed on strongly to be beaten just 1 3/4 lengths, and it was a terrific effort given how the race panned out.
Burtonwood has since run very well to finish third in a competitive affair at Pontefract, and is now running off a mark just 2lb higher than when last victorious.
It gives the son of Acclamation major claims from a handicapping perspective, especially if taking into account the 3lb claim of crack apprentice Josephine Gordon, who is riding out of her skin at present. Burtonwood odds thus feature among our Beverley tips.
Bullet can gun down rivals
In the 1m handicap (16:20), the aptly named Beverley Bullet is taken to live up to his name.
Trained by Les Eyre, the three-year-old is yet to get his head in front in eight starts but ran very well on seasonal reappearance over an extended 7f at the track when a three length second of nine to Billy Roberts off a mark of 63.
The winner has won again since as have the fourth, fifth, sixth (three times) and eighth (twice).
It gives form the form a rock solid look in the context of this contest, and suggests Beverley Bullet is well-treated off an unchanged mark.
Although the gelding has not been at his best in two subsequent outings, he has since been given a 75-day break and clearly goes well fresh.

Massaat can strike gold in Sovereign Stakes at Salisbury
Massaat looks a cut-above his rivals and a worthy favourite to land the feature race on today’s card at Salisbury, the Group 3 Sovereign Stakes (16:10).
The Owen Burrows trained colt progressed well in three runs as a juvenile, finishing an excellent second in the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes on his final outing.
That run suggested the immature Massaat would make up into a better three-year-old once strengthened up, and that view was confirmed when he ran a stormer to finish runner-up to Galileo Gold in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket on return to action.
The son of Teofilo travelled strongly for much of the 1m contest before keeping on well to be beaten 1 1/2 lengths.
That form is head and shoulders above what his rivals have achieved and Massaat has nothing to fear from the re-opposing Zonderland who finished over four lengths behind him in sixth.
Although Massaat failed to shine last time out when ninth in the Investec Derby, he was clearly not right and failed to stay the 1m 4f trip.
The drop back to a mile can see him get back to winning ways, and Massaat is thus appealing among Salisbury best bets.
Class-dropping Chorister to call the tune
In the 1m handicap (14:40), Corpus Chorister can take advantage of what looks a handy mark to open her account now dropped in class.
This David Menuisier trained filly has only had five starts and shaped well on the third of those when keeping on to finish a 6 1/2 length fourth of 14 to Golden Stunner in a 1m maiden at Salisbury.
The winner has won twice since to be rated 93 and the second home Jawaayiz has also gone on to taste success.
Corpus Chorister was allotted an opening mark of 69 on the back of that effort and ran well off it in a class 4 affair at Newmarket when third to Baydar.
The three-year-old was then not at her best last time out on soft ground in a class 5 contest at Nottingham but has since been dropped another 2lb and is now able to race off 65.
That makes Corpus Chorister look well-treated in this lower grade class 6 affair, judged on her runs behind Golden Stunner and Baydar.
