Purple Rock handicapped to strike at Beverley
Purple Rock caught the eye last time out and can taken advantage of a drop in class to score an overdue success in the 1m 2f handicap on today’s card at Beverley (15:30).
The four-year-old has not won since his juvenile days when trained by Charlie Hills but, having been rated 85 when finishing fourth in the class 2 Esher Cup at Sandown last season, is now able to race off a career-low rating of 74.
That gives Purple Rock major claims the weights, and he has shaped well in several starts this season since joining Mick Easterby.
Those runs include a solid staying on 4 1/4 length fourth of 14 to Briardale in a class 3 contest over 1m at York when last seen in action, and Purple Rock looks sure to appreciate the step up in trip judged on that effort.
The son of Fastnet Rock also now drops down into class 4 company and has the assistance in the saddle of Nathan Evans, who is good value for his 5lb claim.
Taking it into account, Purple Rock looks weighted to take all the beating if building on his latest run.
Savannah Beau ready to cut a dash
In the 5f handicap (17:00), Savannah Beau looks decent value to land the spoils now eased in grade and is another of our Beverley best bets.
The Marjorie Fife trained filly scored twice last season in class 5 contests, going on to run some solid races to make the frame off 79 and 80 in class 4 affairs.
Savannah Beau is now able to race off a reduced rating of 74, and comes into the race having shaped as if needing her three starts back in class 4 company after a lengthy break.
The four-year-old lost all chance at the start in the last of those over 6f when slowly away and should now be spot on to do herself justice.
Savannah Beau also now drops back to to the minimum trip over which she has notched two of her three career successes, and another plus is that she is now pitched back into class 5 company. That is a division in which she has a 37.5 per cent strike rate.

Very Dashing to turn on the style at Salisbury
Very Dashing scored in terrific style last time out, so can take the step up into Listed company in her stride to land the 1m 2f feature contest on today’s card at Salisbury (15:50).
The Luca Cumani trained filly shaped with promise in two starts as a juvenile, but looked the type that would come into her own as a three-year-old once strengthened up.
That view was confirmed when the well-bred daughter of Dansili made a winning return to action in a decent 14-runner maiden at Nottingham last month.
After travelling strongly on the heels of the leaders, Very Dashing took up the running a furlong from home and shot clear before being eased down to beat To Eternity by a length.
She was value for much more than the winning margin and the turn of foot shown to put the race to bed suggested Very Dashing had a huge engine. He looked liked one that needed keeping firmly onside, and that’s why Very Dashing is among our Salisbury tips.
The runner-up and fourth home have also come out and won since to give the form a boost. Very Dashing remains unexposed and open to stacks more improvement for a yard that does particularly well with its fillies.
Gunner can prove the Master
Master Gunner ran a blinder when runner-up six days ago, and can go one better to land the 1m 2f handicap (16:20).
This Sir Michael Stoute trained colt shaped with promise in three maiden runs and duly put in a much improved effort on handicap debut when stepped up in trip and finding only Pacharana 1 1/4 lengths too good at Yarmouth.
Master Gunner went down fighting to an improving and well-treated sort, and the pair pulled 10 lengths clear of the field to give the form a rock solid look.
The three-year-old is able to race in this off an unchanged mark of 69, and that makes him 5lb well-in at the weights as he is due to race off 74 in future engagements.
It gives the son of War Front outstanding claims from a handicapping perspective and, with the yard in good form, this looks a golden opportunity for Master Gunner to open his account.
