USA will look to build upon their five-game winning streak as they kick off the Copa America group stage with a bang.
Gyasi Zardes comes into the competition’s curtain raiser full of confidence after bagging a brace in the USA’s previous fixture against Bolivia.
The powerful forward has excelled for LA Galaxy this term, with four goals already in this year’s MLS campaign. Zardes is a talented finisher and possesses the pace and dribbling skills to torment defences. The 24-year-old is therefore a sweet 6/1 to score first against Colombia.
The warm up games have been encouraging and seen Jurgen Klinsmann’s men click in a new 4-3-3 formation, with Michael Bradley thriving in a deep-lying midfield role and newcomers Darlington Nagbe and Christian Pulisic providing a creative jolt off the bench.
USA’s historic clash
For the first time in Copa history, the tournament will be staged outside of South America, with the United States hosting the 45th edition of the event, 100 years on from its creation.
USA are ready to shake things up at the Copa, which features South American football giants. The Stars and Stripes now face a tough group of; defending champions Chile, 2014 World Cup runners-up Argentina, Brazil and 15-time winners Uruguay.
Bradley, capped 115 times for his country, said: “It’s a good blend of youth and experience. I think there’s good balance in the team, and I think there’s big determination within the team to make this a special few weeks.”
Colombia come into the clash having scored just one goal in their last five Copa America games and one of their star players, James Rodriguez, is out of favour with his club Real Madrid.
