Bet of the day: Wednesday’s racing

Best and next best at Sedgefield
Wednesday’s domestic horse racing schedule is made up of meetings at Lingfield, Sedgefield, Southwell and Kempton. You can place all your bets right here at Coral, from super singles to lucky 15s – the winners are just a click away!
All but one of the fixtures goes on the artificial surface, and that’s where we focus our attentions, with Sedgefield’s seven-race card getting underway with a testing handicap hurdle at 2.10pm. Follow our NAP and next best below, or scroll to the bottom of this page where you will find a selection in every race, aimed at aiding your multiples.

Hobbs and Johnson team up
We are not spectating for long however, as our ace of the day goes in the second race, a mares’ novices hurdle, disputed over two-miles. Of the eight-runners expected to go, Little Miss Poet has been picked out by the traders early, and I make them right on the money with that call.
Philip Hobbs has Richard Johnson working for him here, and that looks like a deadly partnership. The four-year-old did as expected on her penultimate start at Market Rasen, leading the field home off a short-price SP. Rosie Mcqueen in second got nowhere near, but the selection found one too good on her most recent start, ending behind Cascaye in February.
That result was a bit of a blot on her promising copy book, and some punters may be wary of trusting her again, but everything looks about right here for Little Miss Poet to get back to the winner’s enclosure. She’s 11/10 at present, and goes as my best of the day.

Alys Rock the standout in a poor field
Looking for something to double her up with and we rate Alys Rock in the lucky last as the chief support. Mick Appleby’s seven-year-old mare won around here on her last outing, back in January, off a big SP.
There was nothing simple about her performance on that occasion, but what grabbed my attention was the way she stuck to her task when asked, and that is a real positive. She rallied back to fix a mistake and showed plenty of desire, which you want for your money. The only real positive in an otherwise plain race.
