Bella to score on handicap debut
Plato’s Kode is the pick in the opener, lining up at 2.00pm, and we waste little time watching, going heavy in the second, our bet of the day running at 2.30pm. A five-furlong fillies’ handicap, seven runners are expected to post, with the best of them being Bella Alissa, under the ride of popular jockey Andrea Atzeni.
The promising three-year-old makes her handicap bow on Tuesday, and has timed it to perfection, arriving on the back of a decent win around this very track last time out. Having placed at Goodwood on debut last summer, she didn’t do much to inspire at Redcar next time, but it all seemed to drop into place last month, beating Subjective by 1 ¼ lengths over 5f when going off a short-price jolly.
NAP given every chance by the handicapper
She did plenty to impress that day, but there seems more to come from Robert Cowell’s filly, and we should see the bulk of that progress this summer. That win last time aside, she seems to have been well treated by the handicapper, and has every chance to go and make a statement against what appears to be an average field.
Atzeni has a decent reputation of getting favourites home in front, and he should enhance that with Bella Alissa. There are too many pointers to ignore here – last time out win, well treated by the handicapper, progress to come and in great hands, we’re more than happy to give her a shot. Coral traders opened at 11/10, and that’s a play for your multiples.
