Bet of the day: Thursday’s racing

We turn the spotlight on Lingfield

Another day, another cash boost for our followers on Wednesday, as NAP Our Little Pony did just as we said she would in the opener at Beverley, turning the tables on Popsi. A column in fine form at the minute, we turn our attentions to Thursday’s schedule.

UK and Irish meetings are penned in at Hamilton, Lingfield, Wolverhampton, Chelmsford, Newcastle, Ffos Las and Fairyhouse. After a four-day working week, we’re powering down the home-straight towards the weekend. Kubler to prove his worth

Focussing on matters at Lingfield, an eight-race card gets started on the turf at 1.40pm, with an auction stakes run over six furlongs. The early going has been described as good, good to firm and we follow Wednesday’s example and go all in on the opener.

Hoping to get off on the winning foot, we have our stake money down on Not After Midnight, who looks the pick of a fairly uninspiring field. Daniel Kubler, a young, talented and fiercely ambitious trainer, aims to prove his worth with this interesting two-year-old filly, who goes into the race showing just one previous outing.

Not After Midnight’s quick-fire return

The selection made her bow at Windsor only last week, placing third in a novice stakes over this trip. Coming home behind winner, and race favourite, Elysium Dream and runner-up Angel Of The South, she paid the price for a sloppy start that day, but plenty of encouragement can be taken from the way she handled herself at the other end of the race. Battling for home, she caught the eye, without ever getting near the winner, but there was enough there to suggest she’ll come on for the effort.

There’s certainly nothing by way of competition that would’ve caused connections any sleepless nights in the run up to this one, with few showing any more experience than she does. The fact they have Not After Midnight back out so quickly is a real positive, and if picking up where she left off, we should be cheering home a winner.
