Bet of the day: Thursday’s racing

Focus falls on racing at Chepstow

It had been a tough week for our followers, but we finally got off the mark on Wednesday, with Three Duchesses doing the business at Catterick to even things up a bit. We did, in fact, bag two winners from the first three races there.

Moving on to Thursday’s schedule in high spirits, and there’s no less than seven meetings planned in the UK and Ireland, with afternoon racing going at Chepstow, Hamilton, Leicester and Killarney, while Doncaster, Epsom and Leopardstown take us through the evening. Click here to place your bets.

Quick-fire double looks likely

We concentrate on a decent looking card at Chepstow, where the curtain goes up on eight legs at 1.50pm. The winner of that auction stakes will be Demons Rock, if our thinking proves to be shrewd, but in terms of a bet of the day we’re waiting it out until the 4.30pm. A whopping 16 runners are expected to battle it out over five furlongs, and this will take some winning.

Our stake money will be riding on Lucky Clover. Dane O’Neill steers for trainer Malcolm Saunders and that looks a winning team. She boasts the lion’s share of experience in this field, and has already proven her worth in this sphere, winning over course and distance last time out. That success came just last week, and a quick-fire double looks likely.

NAP can take penalty in her stride

The six-year-old mare went off at a decent SP that day, but had little trouble getting home in front, taking full advantage of a falling mark to beat Ask The Guru by 1 ¾ lengths. She showed bags of fitness along the way, leading from 2f out and driving for home. Carries a penalty as a result, but there was enough last week to suggest she’ll take it on the chin.

Followers of the stats will be quick to remind us that Saunders has a decent reputation for getting the best out of favourites, and also travels with confidence onside, having picked up some impressive results already this month. We hope for another win on Thursday.
