O’Brien and Moore join forces
The Keeneland Phoenix Stakes goes at 3.35pm, a group one affair, run over the snappy six-furlong trip. A bumper 142,500 euros prize is up for grabs to the winner, ensuring we have some famous names making up the eight-runner field. A good case could be made for a number of the market leaders, but we’re with Sioux Nation.
Star trainer Aidan O’Brien and top jockey Ryan Moore are back working together on the best bet, and that’ll ensure he’s extremely popular in the run-up to the off, especially with casual punters who always aim to keep the pair close in this part of the world. That’s not a bad tactic either.
Sioux Nation impressed at Royal Ascot
Two-year-old colt Sioux Nation arrives with a CV showing two wins from five starts, the first of those coming at Cork in a maiden back in May when going off as odds-on favourite. He did the business that day, beating nearest rival Yulong Warrior by almost four lengths, but was twice as impressive last time out when scoring at Royal Ascot.
The selection was eye-catching that day, winning the group two Norfolk Stakes over five furlongs. Going off at a double-figure price, he ripped up the script to edge joint favourite Santry by a half-length. Steps up in trip here, but that’ll play to his advantage as Sioux Nation was seen running on at the end last time, seemingly getting stronger. A form horse worth sticking with.
