Pardew a 9/1 punt to be next England manager
Coral’s bet of the day focuses on the next England manager market, following on from the Three Lions’ fallout on Monday night, when Roy Hodgson resigned from his post after a shock Euro 2016 last 16 loss to Iceland.
As England seek a solid hand to steady the ship before the 2018 World Cup qualifiers begin, Coral have current Crystal Palace coach Alan Pardew priced up at 9/1 to take over the Wembley reins from Roy.

Pardew’s Palace peak promising
Last season former Eagles midfielder Pardew was the flavour of the year, and certainly in fashion after saving his old playing side from relegation risk and guiding the capital club to 10th – their best ever finish in the Premier League.
His second season in charge saw the Eagles avoid the drop again and the Londoners also reach an FA Cup final, though they eventually fell to English giants Manchester United.
Noted for his commitment to playing attacking football, but also the ability to inspire his charges to dig deep and defend, Pardew’s counter-attacking style at Selhurst Park could suit the current England squad, who seem to struggle breaking down sides.
Among the favourites to take charge of the Three Lions – players he knows and has studied well from his time in the Premier League – ambitious Pardew has been keeping tabs and commenting on England’s Euro 2016 outings in newspaper articles.
Linked linked with the Wembley job after around 18 years of management, which also includes stints with Reading, West Ham United, Southampton, Charlton Athletic and Newcastle United, the 54-year-old has grown and adapted to changes within the English game.
Coaching competition not high calibre
According to tabloids, Wimbledon-born Pardew’s main challengers for the prestigious post are the likes of Gareth Southgate, Eddie Howe and Gary Neville, none of whom can go toe-to-toe with the Eagles tactician in the experience or success stakes.
As Hodgson’s assistant, Neville is tarred with the same brush of failure now at two successive major international tournaments. And, not only that, the ex-pundit saw his own foray into management fail spectacularly with Spanish big-guns Valencia this season, making the Manchester United legend far too much of a risk.
While, Howe is en-vogue for his brilliant work with Bournemouth but is still only 38, and should be tested at the highest level again for at least another season considering the instability in the England camp, elite players and big egos.
Southgate may already be credited for his work with the England Under-21s, but the former Three Lions international has been part of losing sides as both a player and coach.
The Young Lions were expected to go far at their own Under-21 European Championship in 2015 but failed to reach the knockout stage, while Southgate also saw Middlesbrough relegated to the Championship, in his other main managerial role of note.
With that in mind, Pardew could prove profitable at a nifty 9/1 to be picked for the England job next, so don’t miss out.
