Bet of the Day: Northern Ireland can avoid Germany defeat

Published:

O’Neill’s men value to keep run going

Northern Ireland host Germany in a top-of-the-table World Cup qualifying clash at Windsor Park.

Five points ahead of their opponents, a win or draw for Germany would guarantee them automatic qualification as group winners.

However, Michael O’Neill’s team are on a terrific run at present winning their last six games in a row.

And that’s included clean sheets in each of those victories – a remarkable feat.

Of course, Germany present a different proposition to any of their previous six opponents.

Jogi Low’s team have scored 35 goals in qualifying, conceding just two. The Coral News Team don’t need to explain to you how strong Germany are.

But the North haven’t been beaten in Belfast in a competitive game since a 4-2 reverse to Portugal in 2013.

With the Germans not needing a win – a draw will suffice – the Coral Bet of the Day is Northern Ireland Double Chance at 12/5.

Back both sides to score

Norn Iron have scored in 13 of their last 15 fixtures at Windsor Park since that defeat to Portugal.

They have also averaged two goals per game in this group.  Safe in the knowledge a top-two spot is already guaranteed, O’Neill’s team will be relaxed.

Germany, too, are under little pressure here. Die Mannschaft haven’t hit a blank since a friendly with Italy 11 games ago.

It’s likely we’ll see a gritty clash, but plenty of action.

Both Teams To Score – Yes is 6/5, and that’s surely a bet with plenty of value attached.

Muller can add to tally

With such a wealth of attacking talent at Low’s disposal, picking a goalscorer from the Germany squad can be quite difficult at times.

Thomas Muller is currently top scorer with five. But the rest of the 30 goals are spread quite evenly throughout the side.

The Bayern Munich forward is 5/4 to score Anytime. However, Leroy Sane has been in spectacular form for Manchester City this season and could start.

The former Schalke ace is 7/4 to find the net and that’s highly backable too.
